Meeting Pointe

Ballet Axis, Iceland’s newest Ballet troupe presents; ‘Meeting Pointe’, a Triple Bill

Three world premieres by three upcoming female Icelandic choreographers exploring the multi-dimensions of ballet technique.

"Tif" by Kristín Marja Ómarsdóttir explores the tension between regulation and freedom. The work brings together forces that shape movement, connection, and presence.

“Counterpointe” by Erna Jonasdottir is an original ballet that explores different dynamics within ballet and plays with freedom within this classical dance genre. Counterpointe tells a story about the relationship a dancer has with this demanding art form and the hard balance between finding and losing oneself in their passion.

“Ómleikur” by Anna Gudrun Tomasdottir explores the journey between childhood and adulthood, and how our sense of self is formed. Through a contemporary approach to ballet, it creates a dialogue between tradition and modernity, reflecting the multifaceted experience of growing up, belonging, and finding one’s place in the world. Who are we when we free ourselves from the ideas and expectations that others have of us?
